My intention wasn't to ignore them- I agree that some most likely never wanted to become part of whatever Russia's form was at that time.

Morally/philosophically, Russia's intentions are not more important. However, we don't live in a perfect world, and have to recognize that certain countries have more power than others and remember that when making policy. The United States has bullied Latin America and other reasons despite its often lofty rhetoric.

I agree that Russia does push countries to consider NATO membership with its antics.
